How do I get a DUNS Number?

When you register a Company or a Business with a Business Name, the New Zealand Companies Office automatically sends us your details to generate your DUNS Number. This setup takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

If you operate as a Sole Trader under your own name: An NZBN application won't automatically trigger a DUNS Number. You have two options to get one:

  • Register a Company Name: Register a company name through the NZ Companies Office. Once complete, they notify us, and we set up your DUNS Number within 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Apply as a Sole Trader: If you prefer not to register a company name, you can request a DUNS Number directly. [Contact our team here] to start the request. Direct requests take approximately 30 days to process.

DUNS Numbers for Apple or Google Developer accounts

For Apple Developer Accounts: Apple requires a DUNS Number if you register as an Organisation (a company, partnership, or legal entity). Apple uses this number to verify your legal status before approving your enrollment. If you register as an Individual or Sole Trader, Apple lists you under your personal legal name and does not require a DUNS Number.

For Google Play Developer Accounts: Google requires a DUNS Number for all Organisation accounts to confirm your business identity during registration. If you register as an Individual, you can set up your account using your personal details, though Google may still require identity verification depending on your account structure.

How do I change the address on my DUNS Number registration?

To update your address, update your official details directly with the relevant government registry:
